Pierre Keller

For over a decade, Pierre Keller documented his life in some four thousand Polaroids, taken between 1970s New York, South America and his native Lavaux. His circle included Nan Goldin, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Robert Mapplethorpe.

Intimate, explicit and uncensored, Keller’s photographs capture the colour and sexuality of gay life at the time. He never used professional models, instead photographing the men he encountered with the SX-70 he always carried in his pocket. Long overlooked when photography was not yet considered gallery art, these images receive belated recognition in My Colorful Life.
